I live in greater Los Angeles area. Once a day there is a guy passing around with a shopping cart full of black trash bags and uses a bell while he passes by our apartments. I thought he is just collecting cans or so but I just saw him emptying out water from those trash bags. Then a woman came to him and he did some shaving motions inside that trash bag lying on the top of the shopping cart, where a child sits, and then took a foam cup, put something like shaved ice from the trash bag into it, put something from a bottle, inserted a straw and gave it to a woman, who paid him. He then went on his regular patch ringing a bell.

I am confused – could this be that this man is selling shaved ice out of the trash bags and shopping cart? I only saw him from the window across the street, but this is what it looked like. Is this at safe? Aren’t people afraid to eat something prepared in such conditions? I previously saw only the Latino ice cream vendors pushing little carts, but all ice creams were packed and the cart was refrigerated or kept cold inside – not in a cart taken out of a grocery store with ice in trash bags. Is this homemade shaved ice common in Central/Latin America (since we have a high population of Latinos here)? Just curious :)
It is so strange to me given the fact that we have one or two ice cream trucks coming every day, and we have several "brick and mortar" ice cream shops within less than a mile of our apartments, and two grocery stores and 3 convenience stores within 200 feet. I guess the guy is cheaper, and for some people no risk of bacterial infection will keep them from getting something cheaper. And I have heard the bell for at least a year – so he must be selling or would be out of "business."

Recently, in our area some refuse to place the groceries in your cart stating the rotating bagging device is open for the person checking out to place their own groceries in the cart. Most still place the groceries in the cart IF they see you are not doing this yourself. Most stores such as Aldi’s which expect the customer to arrange their own groceries in the cart have much lower prices than Walmart. Your opinon on this practice?
I am sorry, I expect lower prices if I have to put the bags in the cart . . . I guess people with lifting restrictions and disabilities need to hire someone to shop with them if they choose Walmart.
curliegurl78: may I add the selection may not be as large, but the prices are lower to reflect this cut in service at Aldi’s.
puter_patty: excellent point. Sometimes the dividers aren’t available and they will give you some of the next person’s groceries as well.

It used to be that the cashier bags for you and puts it in your cart. Now, the teenagers throw it in the bags and look at people funny (even elderly women) if you don’t put the bags in the cart as fast as they are coming at you! One even got frusterated at me the other day, about this. They make the pregnant or elderly people do bag duty. Is Walmart gypping us by their newer system? It used to be that they did it for you!

I just got a parcel job at a food market. What I do is:
- Assist Customers by loading parcels into vehicles, maintain the outside area of the store
- Maneuver grocery carts, bags of groceries, and parcels
- Retrieve carts from parking lot
- Retrieve products from shelves
- Put away returned items
- Fill bag racks
- Assist cashiers
- and the worst of all, clean out can and bottle return areas, along with the RESTROOM!
With all this I’m also getting paid only aorund 7.80-8.00$/hr…

Toys"R"Us has openings for a sales associate and I’d much rather do that job instead basically because my duties would be much better. I would be,
- Trying to sell products to customers on the selling floor
- Stock shelves
- Maintain backroom areas
- Process customer pick-ups and operate cash registers as needed

Assuming that I get the job at Toys"R"Us, is it okay to just quit my current job after having worked for several days?

For those who need to know, I’m 18-20 yrs old.
- I don’t know the pay of rthe Toys"R"Us job, but I really like it more because of the different and easier duties, along with a nice enviroment where I’m surrounded by cool toys!

If it is okay to leave, how do I go about telling my boss? Do I lie and say something happened and I can’t work for them, or do I just say I found another or better job?

By the way, this would be my first job… But even though it is, not every does a janitorial job as their first job do they?! Besides, I’ve looked around the internet and I’ve read that thost parcel jobs get ABSOLUTLEY NO respect and I’m treated like trash, since I’m doing somewhat of a trashy job…

My boyfriends birthday is coming up and I know he needs a new golf bag. What kind of style should I get? Cart bag? Carry Bag, or are those bags with the stands useful? He is going to be 26 so I want to get him one that is in style and not too old for him.

Makes no sense. Piling loose stuff in your trunk so it flops around.
I realize most of their stuff is large, but they do have a lot of small items.
What is the reasoning behind this?
I know plastic is bad and that they like to verify purchases at the door but c’mon I have 200 items in my cart and all the checkers do is a cursory scan anyway.
I asked the cashier and the bag checker. They looked as puzzled as me.
